Tapestry Events

Waiting Families Groups

These small groups are open to anyone who is in the adoption or foster care waiting process - and certainly those who are just "thinking about" adoption or foster care are welcome too. Tapestry has two waiting families small groups.  One meets on the first Saturday night of each month at the home of Mike & Johnna Wolverton, and the other meets on the fourth Saturday night of each month at the home of Anthony & Kristin Violi.  July Schedule:  Both groups will meet together in July on Saturday, July 31, at 7:30 pm at the Violi's home.  You are free to attend either of the groups - or even both.  Each group starts at 7:30 pm and coffee and dessert is served.  Contact Kristin Violi at ktvioli@gmail.com for more information or locations and directions, or read more about the Waiting Families Groups and find resources to help you 'wait well.'

Older Child Adoption Parent Support Group

Tapestry has a support group for parents who have adopted (or are considering adopting) an older child (preschool age and older).  This group meets on the fourth Sunday night of each month from 5:00 to 6:30 pm in the Training Center at Irving Bible Church.  Children ages birth through 5th grade can participate in the Sunday evening children’s programs during this time.  For more information contact Amy Monroe at tapestry@irvingbible.org or (972) 315-9628.

Birthmother Support Group

Tapestry's birthmother support group offers a safe and confidential environment for understanding, support and healing for birthmothers.  Any woman who has placed a child for adoption, regardless of when, is welcome to attend.  This support group is facilitated by two experienced adoption counselors and meets on the first Tuesday night of each month from 7:00 to 8:30 pm at Irving Bible Church.  The next meeting is on Tuesday, August 3.  For more information about this support group click here or contact Amy Monroe at tapestry@irvingbible.org or (972) 315-9628.

Adoptive and Foster Family Summer Camp

Adoptive and foster families from Tapestry (as well as from several other churches across the U.S.) are going to adoptive and foster family camp (called Castle Peak) at Horn Creek, August 8-14, 2010. This camp will consist of all the fun, relaxation and family time that Horn Creek is known for — but it will also have a few special extras designed especially for adoptive and foster families.  These extras will include a chance to hang out with a diverse group of families from all of the country, some focused discussion time on topics that are particularly relevant for adoptive and foster families as well as a teaching focus on our adoption in Christ. For more information or to download the registration form for this exciting family camp opportunity, visit the Horn Creek website – or contact Amy Monroe at tapestry@irvingbible.org.

Coppell Moms Night Out

Moms and moms-to-be leave the kids at home and head to Starbucks every second Tuesday night of the month.  Schedule Change for August:  Coppell Moms Night Out will not meet in August.  They will meet next on Tuesday, September 14, at 7:30 pm, in Coppell (at the Starbucks in the Tom Thumb shopping center at the corner of Denton Tap and Sandy Lake) for a time to share and laugh together. Read about one Tapestry mom's experience at Moms Night Out here.

Adoptee Support Group

Tapestry's small group for adult adoptees is open to all adoptees age 18 or older.  The group meets on the second Tuesday night of each month; however, the group will not meet in August.  The next meeting will be on September 14, from 7:00 to 8:30 pm in Room West A at Irving Bible Church.  For more information about Tapestry's adoptee support group click here or contact Amy Monroe at tapestry@irvingbible.org or (972) 315-9628.

Fostering Hope - A Foster Care Small Group

Tapestry has a support group for those involved in foster care.  This group is called Fostering Hope and it meets on the second Sunday night of each month from 5:00 to 6:30 pm in Room West A at Irving Bible Church.  Date Change for August:  Fostering Hope will meet on Sunday, August 15 (third Sunday) for the month of August only.  The group is open to anyone touched by foster care, including those who are fostering, fostering-to-adopt or are considering foster care or foster care adoption.  Children ages birth through 5th grade can participate in the Sunday evening children’s programs during this time.  For more information contact Amy Monroe at tapestry@irvingbible.org or (972) 315-9628.

Guys Burger & Movie Night

The Tapestry guys get together every third Thursday night of the month at 6:30 pm at a local burger joint or a 'hole in the wall' establishment for good food and great conversation about adoption and whatever else is on their minds -- followed by a movie.  Our next burger and movie night will be on Thursday, August 19 -- location and movie TBD.  All guys are welcome.  For more information contact Michael Monroe at tapestry@irvingbible.org.

Dallas Moms Night Out

Moms and moms-to-be leave the kids at home and head to Starbucks on the fourth Tuesday night of every other month (i.e., alternating months with the Tapestry Book Club).  Dallas Moms Night Out will meet next on Tuesday, August 24, at 7:30 pm, in North Dallas (at the Starbucks in the Preston Royal Shopping Center located at the northeast corner of Preston and Royal) for a time to share and laugh together.  You can read about one Tapestry mom's experience at Moms Night Out here.

Playgroups

Foster Care & Foster Adoption Information Meeting

On Sunday, August 29, from 1:30 to 3:00 pm, in Room West A & B, Tapestry will host a brief information meeting for anyone interested in knowing more about foster care, adoption from foster care or respite/relief care.  This information meeting is a great opportunity to simply get more information about foster care and foster adoption that can help you decide what path might be best for you and your family.  For those wanting to move forward training classes will be offered at Irving Bible Church in September.  For questions or more information contact Amy Monroe at tapestry@irvingbible.org.

Tapestry's 5 Years of Ministry Celebration

On Saturday, Setpember 18, from 6:30 to 8:30 pm, Tapestry is throwing a party to celebrate five years of ministry.  This evening will include dinner and some great stories, videos and more, as we look back at what God has done among our community of families and dream about what lies ahead.  Tapestry only “turns five” once, so you will not want to miss this celebration.  The entire evening will be free of charge and childcare will be available for ages 0 to 12.  More details to come, but go ahead and mark your calendars now.

2010 Tapestry Adoption & Foster Care Conference

On Saturday, October 23, from 9 am to 3 pm, Tapestry will host its 4th annual Tapestry Adoption & Foster Care Conference.  This year’s conference will be packed full of great new stuff, and will feature Sherrie Eldridge (author of several books, including Twenty Things Adoptive Kids Wish Their Adoptive Parents Knew) as the keynote speaker.  All of the details for the 2010 Tapestry Conference will be available at www.tapestryconference.org starting in August, and online registration will begin in early September.  In the meantime, be sure to check out some of the resources from past Tapestry conferences.

Adoption: Myths and Realities

On Thursday, December 2, from 6:30 to 8:30 pm at Irving Bible Church in the Alcove (directly below the Mo Coffee Shop), Tapestry will host an event entitled Adoption: Myths and Realities.  This event is a great opportunity for people to find reliable information in a safe environment where they can ask and discuss their questions and concerns.  The event is designed to be particularly valuable for those who are just beginning to consider adoption or foster care, as well as for those who still have difficult, unanswered questions.  During this event, Michael and Amy Monroe will discuss many of the common adoption myths and contrast them with the honest realities.  For more information contact Amy Monroe at tapestry@irvingbible.org.

Childcare will be available for this event for ages 0-12 with registration at least 48 hours in advance.  Click here for information about how to register for childcare.

2. once you are logged-in, select the child(ren) you are trying to register for childcare

3. from the dropdown menu select the form for the day of the event and press continue

4. from the dropdown menu select the name and date of the event (for example, Tapestry event)

If you have questions or need assistance in making childcare reservations, please contact Tammy Hutchinson at thutchinson@irvingbible.org or call the KidZone hotline at (972) 560-4639.  But don't forget, you must make your childcare reservations at least 48 hours in advance of the event.
